Skagen's nature and countryside is unique.   Wild yet mild. Magnificent but unpretentious.  Marked by sea and wind.

It's here the 2 seas meet in a gentle embrace when breezes are light.  Yet burst into to a furious crash of energy when the gales roar and waves are high. It's a world-class natural phenomenon.  As are the migrating sand dunes, which slowly but steadily make their way towards the Kattegat, pushed on by westerly winds.   Råbjerg Mile is the largest - and through the eyes of a child can resemble the Sahara.

Dunes, woodland and heath as far as the eye can see  -  an open invitation for walkers and ramblers, any time of the year. Try mushroom or berry picking.  Take a quiet moment with paints and a sketchpad. Or just take a stroll - to clear your thoughts.

All this is surrounded by sea - and mile upon mile of inviting  beaches with glistening white sand, sparkling like crystals in brilliant sunlight. And then there's bathing - the sea's irresistible  for water babies, of all ages.

The Worldwide Nature Fund has long since designated the region as one of the few authentic nature areas remaining in Denmark.

Stand on Skagen's Sønderstrand. Take a glance to the south.  Here you have Skagen in a nutshell.  The horizon, tall skies, beaches and  brilliant light. Exactly as P.S. Krøyer saw it when he painted the bathing children.  Today, a new generation of children take delight in rollicking in the waves.  And  sands from that time have long since been replaced by new. Yet the atmosphere remains the same.

Experience Skagen's nature - on your own, or take a guided tour.
